Why
Bangkok?
In the ‘10-40 window’ there are many cities which are
large and provincial, but there are a fewer number that are large and impact the
planet - meaning they have networks throughout the world. Bangkok is one of those
cities. To impact Bangkok is to be able to impact Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, and
India. Bangkok is the most modern point of Indo-China. To impact Bangkok is to
impact Indo-China. Bangkok is a Gateway city into the 10-40 window. Of
the largest 25 cities in the world by the year 2025, Bangkok will be the ONLY
one that is both in the 10-40 window and where there is also freedom to share
the gospel. Bangkok is land locked by countries where there is either no freedom
or there is very limited freedom to share the gospel, and then beyond those countries
there are borders with China and India. 2 journeymen came to serve recently for
2 years at a major university in Bangkok, and their ministry literally was touching
over 500 students a week by the time the left at the end of their assignment.
It seems that God has positioned Bangkok as a gateway for westerners to impact
many Asians and Middle-Easterners from the 10-40 window, who then themselves can
go into the surrounding countries or their home country and share the gospel in
ways westerners could never do. Bangkok itself has great spiritual need.
One recent count last year said that less than 0.2 percent of Bangkok is evangelical
Christian! Bangkok is rapidly growing, in the last decade Bangkok has grown from
5 million people to 11 million people! |
