To
impact the window, we must impact its cities!
There is bad news. We
are losing the cities, the places which shape the values and produce the leaders
of the future in the 10-40 window, and where those from the unreached people groups
of a given geographical area will end up in massive numbers. Yet, while we hear
of many rural peoples coming to the gospel, where are the stories of those in
their cities coming to Christ in massive numbers? Where are the stories of the
cities of over 10 million that are the bastions of Islam, Buddhism, Communisn
and Materialistic Secularism, turning to Christ by the tens and hundreds of thousands?
Reaching the unreached peoples without impacting their cities is an incomplete
strategy, because the leaders of those peoples are being educated and skilled
in those cities. Having an intentional part in impacting these cities is one of
the most strategic moves a ministry can make. Statistics illustrate this
point. In the year 1900, all the world’s 5 largest cities were pro-Christian and
centers for Church life and missions. By 2000, 3 of the top 5 are hostile to Christian
missions. By 2050, projections are that 4 of the top 5 will be anti-Christian
cities. In 1900 there were only 5 non-Christian cities over 1 million. Today there
are 121 and by 2050 there is projected to be 510. These are mainly in the 10-40
window, where non-Christian world religions and philosophies have been entrenched
for 3,000 or 4,000 years. |
